Facebook goes ‘Live’

    Facebook goes ‘Live’

Stay in touch with your fans by using a new Facebook Mentions app and its Live function. Facebook has just released a Live chat that enables actors, celebrities or other influencers share their live video from Mentions to Facebook directly – all in real-time!

Once live streaming starts, it appears on your fans’ walls and they can immediately start commenting on the video. It’s a fun way to interact with your followers and enables a multiple to multiple communication live! Why?

Your followers will also see the broadcasts of their friends – so they can see what their friends are watching – sport events, chats, concerts, backstage etc.

For those who missed the broadcast, a full copy of the video will still appear on their timeline as well as on the wall of the author (see example of Michael Bublé).

Who can use it? As for now it’s only available to verified public figures using Facebook Mentions app and Pages. Facebook Mentions app enables celebrities posting updates, photos or videos as well as tracking all responses that use a particular hashtag. It is also a useful way to publish their updates from Facebook instantly to other platforms, e.g. Instagram or Twitter.

Does this mean Facebook goes to war with Meerkat, Periscope and “Our Story” function by Snapchat? They have been keeping the entire project secret for a while and none of it has been shared during F8 in March. Facebook platform director has explained that it’s a response to ever-growing demand for video on social – 3 billion videos are now watched daily.

What do you think? Have you used the Live chat yet? Would you like it to be available for “normal” people as well?
