Instagram Improves ‘Instagram Direct’ Private Messaging Capabilities

It took Instagram a long time to introduce the features we were all waiting for and since now, every week Instagram truly surprises me. Since last week, we’re able to post landscape photos and videos, loosening up the tight rule of posting square photos only.

Now, when choosing a photo or video, you can tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. Once you share the photo, the full-sized version of it will appear to all of your followers in feed in a beautiful, natural way.

– said Instagram.

This week it’s also about Instagram – just yesterday Instagram announced new improvements to Instagram Direct. To those of you who are not familiar with Instagram Direct, this was a sort of “private message” feature on Instagram. You could send a snap to your friend by clicking “Direct” and tagging your friend.

What Instagram Direct does now is allowing you to share a photo or video directly from the Instagram wall to your friend or a group of friends. Next to the heart icon (like) and comment icon, there is now a new “arrow”. No more taking screenshots and posting them as a new Insta to send a message directly to your friends.

No need to send multiple messages separately as from now on Instagram introduces threaded messages. What does it mean exactly? You can continue with your conversation back and forth and send photos instantaneously. Before, you had to send each photo or video once at a time, resulting in multiple messages sent to just one person! Do you want to send it to a group of friends? It’s now all possible!

Have you tried it already? What do you think about the new function? Does it look similar to Facebook Messages?
